Lennon served Celtic vs Rangers reminder in furious Rapid Bucharest derby ticket row

Neil Lennon will be entering familiar territory when he takes charge of Rapid Bucharest after a bitter row broke out with city rivals Steaua Bucharest over a lack of tickets for their derby.

The former Celtic and Hibs boss is set to complete the shock move to Romania and it's expected to be announced after this week's derby - the final match of the season.

Rapid host Steaua in the Derbiul Bucurestiului in the 137th meeting between the two rivals in one of the most bitterly contested derbies in Europe.

And just like with the Old Firm, the game has been overshadowed by a ticket row after Rapid reduced Steaua's allocation to just 400 fans.

Celtic and Rangers have played each other six times in a row now with no away fans, although that has finally been resolved for next season with visiting supporters back at Ibrox and Parkhead.

But Lennon will walk into a simmering row between the clubs, with Steaua champions and Rapid certain to finish in last place after the season split having lost all their games.

A statement from Steaua Bucharest's official supporters club said: "Once again, Rapid show their dirty character by giving us just 400 tickets for the derby.

"The club better reciprocate this for their fans next season.

"We have been given no reason why they have cut our allocation which is well below the minimum requirement for away supporters in the league."
